
Natalie Shuman: Corporate Dropout Turned Coral Nerd
Natalie Shuman is a visionary force in sustainable dive tourism and ocean conservation, serving as the co-owner and operator of Sun Divers Roatan, Roatan’s first PADI Eco Center. A California native and lifelong ocean lover, Natalie’s journey from international marketing strategist to dive industry leader is rooted in her belief that business can and should be a catalyst for positive change.
With a degree in Mass Communication from UCLA and over 15 years of experience leading campaigns for mission-driven brands in health, wellness, and sustainable food technology, Natalie brings a rare blend of strategic expertise and heartfelt passion to her work. Her professional background includes award-winning leadership roles and recognition, such as being named a United Fresh Produce Leadership Alum and a recipient of The Packer’s Women in Produce honor.
Natalie’s transition into the dive industry began with a shared dream: together with her partner Shannon, she envisioned a dive center that would unite a global community of adventurers passionate about protecting the ocean. In 2021, this vision became reality with the acquisition of Sun Divers Roatan. Since then, Natalie has cultivated a team renowned for exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and unforgettable underwater experiences. Under her guidance, Sun Divers earned the distinction of Roatan’s first PADI Eco Center, setting a new standard for sustainability and stewardship in the region.
Her leadership extends beyond Sun Divers. Natalie serves on the Board of Directors for the Roatan Marine Park, is a founding member of Roatan’s EcoSafe Sunscreen Coalition, and acts as an Inland Ocean Coalition Ambassador, amplifying conservation efforts throughout the Bay Islands and beyond. She is also the creator of the ROA Girls Scholarship Program, empowering local girls to explore and protect their marine environment.
Natalie’s thought leadership has been featured in major publications, including a Forbes profile highlighting her entrepreneurial journey and commitment to ocean advocacy.
